What is Pre Market and Post Market Session and Orders

Pre Market Session or Pre Open Session

NSE started the process of pre open session for minimising the volatility of shares and securities before the market open every day The time when the pre market session ate conducted on NSE is between 9:00 AM to 9:15AM.

During pre market session orders can are  collected, modified, or cancelled for the first 8 minutes that is between 9:00AM and 9:08AM. One can place limit orders or market orders. The order collection window time can be closed any time between 9:07 AM and 9:08 AM.

After closure of collection window new orders cannot be placed that is between 9.08AM to 9.15AM. During this time the orders which have been placed will be matched and the trades will be confirmed. Post Closing Session or Post Market Session

Similar to pre open session, only equity segment orders can be placed during post closing session. Post Market Session is between 3:40 PM and 4:00 PM.

During this period, investors can place buy or sell orders in equity segment at the market price, but do note the even if you place an market order the orders will confirmed at the exchange at the closing price. 

Example: If the closing price of Relaince Industries at 3:30PM is Rs.1200, and if you place an order to buy or sell in post market session that is 3:40PM to 4:00PM Relaince Market price of Rs.1200 will be considered.
